National Search & Rescue (NSAR) Competition 2008

RULES AND GUIDELINES

 

Each district is able to send one team to NSAR.
a. District should conduct a run-off to identify their team
b. Commitment to participate must be made by 01 May 08
c. Team members must be identified by 15 Aug 08

Each team will consist of three members
a. At least one team member must be a currently qualified coxswain
b. All team members must be currently qualified boat crew members

Events will include the following
a. Navigation & Search and Rescue Planning
b. On water SAR exercise
c. Seamanship
d. Line heaving
e. Marlinspike
f. Mystery event
 

Event Details

 

All events will be based on the standards as set forth in the Boat Crew Qualification Guide, the Boat Crew Manual and the Operations Policy Manual.

Events will take place on Friday October 3 and Saturday October 4. An Awards dinner will follow the events on Saturday evening.

Travel days are Thursday 02OCT08 and Sunday 08OCT08

NSAR TEAM ARRIVAL:

Upon arrival at TRACEN (NLT: 1600) report to the PX parking lot. A NSAR Staff member will direct teams to TEAM BILLETS.

TEAM BILLETS are located in Sexton Hall, directly across the street from the PX.

Chow at the galley starts at 1630.



BRIEFINGS

OTO/Judges Briefing 1700 Oceanside Bldg (Officers Club) From security gate, take immediate right turn and go down
the road to the first building.

NSAR TEAM Briefing 1900 Harborview (ALL HANDS CLUB) Food will be available.


SEAMANSHIP TEST:
20:15 following team briefing


NSAR COMPETITION EVENTS :

All EVENTS BEGIN : 0700 FRIDAY

ALL EVENTS END: 1600 SATURDAY

AWARDS DINNER: 1830 SATURDAY OCEANSIDE BLDG


Team members traveling by air to Philadelphia Airport will drive to Station Cape May via automobile (approx. 2 hours). One member of each team is authorized to rent a compact car under orders. All orders will include the name of team/crew. The team captain will be first. Member who will rent car will be designated on orders.

At the front gate, you will be directed to Team billets at Sexton Hall . All members must have Auxiliary ID.

Guests traveling with the Team will not be allowed on Station until Friday morning. All Guests must have ID.

 
If you are attending as a participant or guest please send your name to Hal Marchall,  hal3680@aol.com no later than 15SEP or you will be unable to get on the base.


Teams will bring their own PPE (Life Jackets and required safety equipment, rain gear, etc.) and Plotting tools. The USCG has asked that all team members to bring their own towels.

Team uniforms will be ODU's with boat shoes on facilities, boots on station.

Male and female crew members will be billeted separately.

Judges will be USCG OTO's, augmented by USCGA, and or Station Cape May USCG Training personnel.
 

Orders

NSAR TEAM ORDERS are handled in the following manner.  ARCO's request for DCO's, DCO's request for their District NSAR Team. The NSAR team orders must have Team members name(s) member number, and e-mail address.
 

Awards Dinner 
Awards Dinner will be held Saturday night at 1800 hrs. Business casual. Guests will be admitted on first come/first served basis.
 

Tickets will be $35.00 by check, made out to the USCG Auxiliary Association.


All Team members and guests must send names of those attending prior to September 15th.

It will be a sit down dinner with choices of beef, chicken, seafood.   CASH BAR.

 

Staying Off Station

TEAM members traveling with spouses can stay off station, but must pay for their hotel expenses. Many local hotels will honor the military rate. Hotel rates are subject to change, so please plan ahead if you intend to stay off station


Hotels for Guests ALL TEAM MEMBERS WILL BE BILLETED ON STATION.

The Montel Inn 800-525-7011 Rate per night: 123 , 152 oceanview

Cape Harbor Motor Inn 609-884-0018 Rate per night 86-92

There are also many other local hotels with availability.
